The game in this project was developed with direct involvement from mental health professionals, Stichting Borderline, and people with personal experience with borderline personality disorder (BPD). The aim of this project was to create awareness around the topic of mental health. BPD is heavily stigmatized. Therefore, our goal was to create an understanding of this mental illness in an effort to destigmatize it, which can help patients in their recovery process.
In our game Robin, you go through part of a day from the perspective of someone with BPD to make players understand their thought process. Certain gameplay mechanics are created as metaphors for how people with BPD can experience certain social interactions. Through this narrative heavy game we hoped to reduce misunderstanding around BPD in an attempt to destigmatize it an encourage open conversation.
